The visuals of Chinese calligraphy are a significant part of Cloud Gate’s stage design. Thus, this generative design animation is inspired by the movement of clouds, and the transformation of Chinese calligraphy’s ink dripped in water.
Logomark
The logomark interprets ancient Chinese stamps that were carved on materials such as wood and stones.
Binding
The threads of the brochures’ stitch binding are inspired by the materiality of dancers’ free-flowing outfits.
Color Scheme
The color scheme is selected according to the five primary colors in Chinese culture: turquoise, red, white, black, and gold. The flickering visual effect, created by duotone colors with similar hues, amplifies the motion of dance.
Projection Installation
Generative design’s visuals are projected on the translucent mesh, creating an environment for audiences to walk within ‘the clouds.’

Description
The goal of this project is to create an exhibition of Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan and design an identity system for it. The title of the exhibition is based on one of their masterpieces. Cloud Gate’s hybrid dance aesthetics integrates western classical dance and the rounded eastern movements of martial arts and tai chi.
