LIMINAL SPACE IS THE
TRANSITIONAL PERIOD
BETWEEN TWO STATES
Folded Pages
The folding of pages repositions the French-fold interior as a liminal space. The vibrant floods of gradient represent the endless possibilities within these malleable in-between states. Also, they provide incentives for readers to explore these spaces in addition to our usual reading mechanism.
IT IS AMID THE AMBIGUOUS
AND DISORIENTING SPACE
WHERE CREATION OCCURS
AND MEANING IS DERIVED
Binding
A metal fastener binds the entire book together, and no glue was involved in the process. This gesture acknowledges the fluid state in liminal spaces where everything is in flux.
THE TRANSITION PERIOD IS
A MOIRE PATTERN FORMED
BETWEEN THE STRUCTURES
OF THE PAST AND FUTURE
Color Palette
The garden serves as an analogy for liminal space in our domestic environment. It’s a space between the human space and nature, sharing characteristics of them both. Therefore, various greens in the color palette mimic the scenery in a garden.
LIMINAL SPACE SERVES AS A
POWERFUL ANALOGY TO THE
INHERENTLY TRANSDISCIPLINARY
SCOPE OF GRAPHIC DESIGN
Drawing Machine
Design tools have nudged graphic design to its own liminal space, where graphic designers happily operate in this slightly ambiguous position. A drawing machine was used to create the outro of the book, paying homage to the discipline and tools’ deeply intertwined development.

Description
This project aims to examine and argue not only the resemblance of graphic design and liminal spaces but the intricacies of the role they take in each other. This book serves as the theoretical backbone of my thesis.
